Oakland is a city in California. It is across the bay from San Francisco. It is the county seat of Alameda County and the third-largest city in the Bay Area, after San Jose and San Francisco. At one time, Oakland had many factories that built cars, ships and airplanes. It is a major rail junction. It is the home of the Athletics baseball team and the Raiders football team.

California governor Jerry Brown was once mayor of Oakland. The current mayor is Libby Schaaf.
