Gorgozaura rekonstrukcija


Gorgozaurs (tulkojumā no latīņu valodas nozīmē šausmīgā vai draudīgā ķirzaka) ir dinozaurs, kurš dzīvojis Ziemeļamerikā krīta periodā, laikā pirms apmēram 77—74 miljoniem gadu. Fosilijas atrastas Kanādā un ASV Montānā.


Kā vairums tiranozauru, gorgozauri bija divkājaini plēsoņas, kuri svēra vairāk nekā 1 tonnu, ar vairākiem desmitiem lielu asu zobu, un ar divām nelielām priekškājām.


Gorgozauru atliekas tika atrastas aizvēsturiskas jūras krastā, kura atradās mūsdienu Kanādas teritorijā. Iespējams, ka gorgozauri tomēr nebija paši valdonīgākie no plēsoņām, jo dažos rajonos atrasts pierādījums tam, ka tie mituši līdzās daspletozauriem. Daspletozauri bijuši līdzīga izmēra kā gorgozauri, taču daudz masīvāki. No tā jāsecina, ka gorgozaurs nebija pats dominējošākais tiranozaurs.


Gorgozaura pārakmeņojušās fosiliju krājums ir viens no lielākajiem krājumiem visu atrasto tiranozauru fosiliju starpā. Pavisam kopā atrasti 20 skeleti.
