Ecclesiastical pastor of military passes away

Bishop Leopoldo S. Tumulak, Military Ordinariate of the Philippines (MOP), passed away last Saturday, June 17, at the age of 72 due to pancreatic cancer.

He became bishop of the Military Ordinariate in 2005, serving as the ecclesiastical pastor of military and police personnel, their dependents and civilian employees
According to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), Tumulak passed away at 1:26 p.m. at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City. The prelate had been in and out of the hospital after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year.
Born on Nov. 29, 1944, in Santander, Cebu, Tumulak was ordained priest in 1972 and was appointed bishop in 1987. He served as the bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran in 1992.
