Germans (German: Deutsche) are a germanic people in Central Europe. They live mostly in Germany (60 million) and as ethnic minority in Belgium, Denmark, Poland and France. A total of about 100 million Germans and people of German ancestry are in the world, specially in countries such as the United States, Brazil, Russia and Canada. Germans speak today the German language (Hochdeutsch = Standard German) and diverse dialects as Low German, Middle German and Upper German. The majority of people in Switzerland and Austria are native speakers of German and are often regarded as ethnically German.
